How to do a trade license

A business license is legally required for any business to operate. Generally outside the city corporation and metropolitan area, union councils, municipalities, upazila or zila parishad grant this license. It is not usable for any purpose other than business.

How to apply in Dhaka?

Dhaka City Corporation (North and South) has divided the City Corporation into several zones to serve its citizens. These include five northern city corporations and five southern city corporations. You must obtain a license from an office in the region in which your organization is located. There are two types of city corporation forms for trade licenses. You can get forms based on the type of business you are doing or wanting to do. Complete the form and submit the required documents and pictures. The City Corporation may be investigating the institution and based on its report, the license will be paid by paying a certain amount of license fee.


Documents required for a trade license


(1) General Trade License - copy of attested rental receipt or rental contract copy and holding tax payment receipt.


(2) Trade License for Industrial Organization - Everything mentioned in serial number 1 and

* The Declaration on the Judicial Stamp চলে complies with the DCC policy

* A copy of passport size picture

(3) Clinic / Private Hospital - Permit letter from the Director General of Health Department


(4) In case of Limited Company -

     * In-corporation certificate


(5) In the case of printing presses and residential hotels - permit from the Deputy Commissioner (DC)


(6) In case of Employment Agency - License from Manpower Manpower Export Bureau


(7) For arms and ammunition companies - copy of arms license


(8) Drug and drug cases - copy of drug / drug license


(9) Approval from the Travel Agencies - Civil Aviation Authority


Form Collection:


There are two different types of forms for collecting trade licenses. The forms are known as 'I form' and 'K form'. The cost of each form is 1 taka. If a business organization is small or ordinary, then 'Form I' and 'Form K' are required for big business. There are five North City Corporations and five South City Corporations. You must obtain a license from an office in the region in which your organization is located.


License Fee:


The fees for trade licenses generally depend on the type of business and size. One type of fee for a sole proprietorship, and another for a joint venture. Typically, the license fee ranges from a minimum of 20 to a maximum of Tk 25,000. The only way to know what the fees will be for an organization is to go to the Revenue Office and submit the required documents. Because this fee reviews the documents submitted by the Board of Revenue.


However, a fee is a signboard fee. The signboard fee will be charged at the rate of 5% whichever is the license fee.


License renewal:


Each trade license has a term of one year. After 5 years it has to be renewed. Considering that you have to apply for renewal of license within the next three months after expiry. This is why you have to contact a regional official with a current trade license. The amount of the license renewal fee equals the new license fee. And the bank name of the deposit is mentioned in the form.


Required Information Addition:


When applying for a trade license, a company name is first suggested. The authorities concerned then see if anyone has been assigned that name. If not allotted then a license is given under that name. As a result, no one else gets the opportunity to conduct business under that name. The following information is to be provided on the Trade License Application Form -


Applicant's Name, Father's or Husband's Name, Mother's Name, Permanent Address, Current Address, Business Company or Factory or Company Name and Address, Date of Start of Business, Type of Business, Approved or Paid Capital Amount (Applicable to Limited Company), Place of Business Own Or rental and signboard details of the business organization.
