E-Passport launches on November 28 - said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen Bangladesh will officially launch the e-passport from November 28, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said. The Foreign Minister said at a press conference at his office on Thursday about the recently concluded Europe visit, the concerned authorities have confirmed the date. External Affairs Minister said the expatriate Bangladeshi will not have any more problems in renewing their passport as the e-passport period is 10 years. The e-passport consists of an electronic microprocessor chip, which analyzes the stored biometric information to identify the passport carrier. It has 28 types of security features. Currently the information found in the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) database is being transferred to the e-passport. The Department of Export and Passport was supposed to start distributing electronic passports or e-passports from July last year to facilitate travel abroad. Bangladesh and Germany signed an agreement on July 19 last year after the government decided to launch e-passports along with the MRP. The e-passport launched and automated border control management system was started on July, with the government financing the implementation of this related project.
